Pizzato
The Pizzato family winery began in Brazil in 1879, part of an Italian emigration wave shaping modern Brazilian winemaking. Initially producing wine from Bonarda grapes brought from Italy, the wine was even prescribed for typhoid by a local doctor.
In the 1960s, the winery moved to Vale dos Vinhedos, making wine mostly for resale or family use. The modern company, still family-owned, was established in 1998 with the first vintage in 1999, leading to the creation of the flagship Merlot, ‘DNA 99’. Now, fifth-generation winemaker Flávio Pizzato, awarded Brazil’s ‘Winemaker of the Year’ in 2020, produces renowned reds, and whites like Semillon and Chardonnay.
